John Henry Richie

John Henry Richie, Jr., 74, of Poplar Bluff, MO passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Richie was born on August 3, 1938 in Poplar Bluff to John Henry Richie, Sr. and Flora L. Baker Richie. He was a graduate of Wheatley High School in Poplar Bluff, and had attended Central Baptist Church. As a youth, he worked alongside his father as a cook at the Gibbon's Hotel in Poplar Bluff. He later moved to Chicago where he lived for 30 years before retiring and moving back to Poplar Bluff. Mr. Richie enjoyed serving others, spending time with his family, playing cards, and cooking.

In his early years he married Barbara Grant, the mother of his children.
He later married Mildred Magness Parker in Chicago, IL. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children; John Richie III of Chicago, IL, LaDonna Richie of Las Vegas, NV, and Toni Johnette Richie of Chicago, IL; brothers; Thomas Glenn Richie (Beatrice) of St. Louis, Donald E. Richie of Colorado Springs, CO, Jerry L. Richie (Sherone) of Knoxville, TN, Larrie Richie of Lanham, MD, Howard D. Richie of Beloit, WI, Perry O. Richie (June) of Poplar Bluff, Michael Ray Richie of Colorado Springs, Co, Dale Richie of Poplar Bluff; godson, Lamont Green, of Poplar Bluff; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His parents, a brother, Keith and a sister, Claudette, preceded Mr. Richie in death.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 in the funeral chapel with Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Burial will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
