John Forrest Stenger, 58, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away, Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Stenger was born Dec. 28, 1955 in St. Louis, Mo. to John Francis and Nelva Jean Horton Stenger. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and worked as a welder for Phoenix Fabricators. Mr. Stenger proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, working in the aerospace ground unit. He was an amateur astronomer who enjoyed studies of NASA as well as an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. Mr. Stenger enjoyed fishing, hiking, hunting, kayaking, playing tennis and golf. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren, and taking long walks with them and their dog. He also enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and college and pro-football, and playing video games.
On Nov. 1, 2014, he married Maria Formentera Allen in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two children: Cindy Wilburn (Kevin), of Campbell, Mo. and Jennifer Parks (Kyle), of Qulin, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Danica Allen, of the home; his parents, John F. and Nelva J. Stenger, of Campbell; a sister, Alice Noall, of Poplar Bluff; a brother, Fred Stenger (Kim), of Poplar Bluff; and six grandchildren: Madison, Colton, John Spencer, Ashlyn, Alexis and Mason.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. with Bro. Ray Meek officiating.
