John Michael Vernon

John Michael Vernon, 61, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at the home of his father surrounded by his loving family.

John was born Nov. 7, 1951 in Poplar Bluff. He was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, and Bailey Technical School in St. Louis. John was a self-employed Licensed Master Plumber, and had served 6 years in the Missouri National Guard. John enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, and restoring antique cars.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Vernon of Houston, Texas, and Sara Vernon Williams (Chris), of College Station, Texas; two grandchildren, Tatum Vernon and Braden Williams; his father, James Gayland Vernon, of Poplar Bluff; mother, Dolores (Turner) Vernon-Terry, of Poplar Bluff; and two brothers, James L. Vernon, of Poplar Bluff, and Gayland Daniel Vernon, of Washington State.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents, James O. and Opal Virginia Vernon, and Lawrence and Gertrude Turner.

The family will gather and visit with family and friends at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11th at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral Chapel with Rev. David Stewart officiating.
