Johnny Stiber

August 13, 1951 — March 15, 2018

Johnny Edward Stiber, Jr., 66, of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at his home.

Born Aug. 13, 1951, to Alice (Taylor) Vandermark in Poplar Bluff, he died after walking his beloved dog Milo, who preceded him in death, on a sunny spring afternoon 40 years to the day after his father's death.

After his service in the Army as a Specialists, Stiber worked 30 years at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center as a grounds engineer, caring for the roses along Westwood, and brought his work home, creating a garden with a variety of plants and banana trees. He was an avid outdoorsman who knew the best spots for fishing and was called "Wappapello's crappie wizard" by a 1992 magazine story. He played golf, recording a hole-in-one on consecutive days at Poplar Bluff Country Club's 150-yard second hole in May 1989, and made his own clubs. He enjoyed his dogs, including Lucy who survives, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, playing softball and "cracking the whip" in his boat on the lake. He recently won the family's UNO tournament, the Weiner Dog Classic.

He married Amber (Massie) on June 30, 1973, she survives along with their children Jennifer Rosener and Sean Stiber, both of Poplar Bluff; their spouses, Brian Rosener and Rachel Stiber; one grandson, Jack Harrison; an aunt, Joann Kelly and her spouse Bill.

He was preceded in death by his mother Alice Vandermark, his father, Johnny Stiber, Sr., step-father, Boyd "Buzz" Vandermark, grandparents, Ollie and Legal Tender Taylor, Carl and Dorothy Stiber, and uncle, Robert Taylor.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff. A memorial service will begin immediately following in the Moore Funeral Service Chapel at 7 p.m. with Rev. Dennis Ward officiating..
