Joyce Marie (Dees) Paskel

Joyce Marie Paskel, 76, of Poplar Bluff died Friday, March 16, 2012 at her home one day before her 77th birthday.

Mrs. Paskel was born March 17, 1935 in Chaonia, Mo. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff for 57 years, and was also a member of the Adult Choir and Ladies Ensemble. Mrs. Paskel graduated from nursing school with the highest honors in her class, and worked as an LPN at Poplar Bluff Hospital as well as John J. Pershing VA Medical Center before her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, church, sewing, gardening and flowers.

On Feb. 18, 1950, she married Billy Gene Paskel in Piggott, Ark. Mr. Paskel preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2005.

Survivors include three children, Jean Bolin and her husband Robert of Piggott, Ark., Marty D. Paskel and his wife Susan and Jill Denise Beiri and her husband Roger all of Poplar Bluff; 7 grandchildren, Travis Grimes and his wife Kathleen, Pastor Trent Grimes and his wife Devon, Ryan Paskel, Ashley Garamella and her husband Dennis, Rachel Wheeler and her husband Derek, Brett Chilton and Lexie Beiri; 8 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Bella, Josiah, Noah, Uriah, Ana, Dennis Jr. and Xavier; 4 sisters, Mary Ellen Boyer and her husband John of Williamsville, Mo., Nancy Farlow and her husband Ed of Yuba City, Calif., Carol Belt and her husband Charles and Sharon Bailey all of Poplar Bluff; and a brother, Larry Dees of St. Louis, Mo.

Her parents, Fred M. and Etta Marie (Davis) Dees, daughter, Joy Williams, granddaughters, Kristen and Robin Williams and brother, Fred Dees also preceded Mrs. Paskel in death.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at The First Baptist Church with Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial will follow at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
