Juanita Elizabeth Mitchener

Juanita Elizabeth Mitchener, 89, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Mitchener, one of seven daughters, was born March 16, 1921 in Bonne Terre, Mo. She was a faithful member of First Church of God of Poplar Bluff, and had retired from Missouri Natural Gas Company. Mrs. Mitchener enjoyed her church and church family, spending time with family and many friends and doing needlework.

On June 6, 1942, she married Leonard Shaner. He died on Dec. 19, 1944 aboard the destroyer escort USS Monaghan. On Dec. 8, 1962, she married Arthur Warren ""Mitch"" Mitchener. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2000.

Survivors include her friend and caregiver, Jean Hawkins of Poplar Bluff; nieces, Rosalie Francis and husband Bob of Cape Girardeau, Patty McCarty and husband Linn of Farmington, Mary Ann McClanahan and husband Gene of Clinton, Tenn.; nephew, Jim Burns of Sullivan; special niece, Tommie Mitchener of Doniphan; several great and great-great nieces; and special friends, Mary Hickey of Corning, Ark. and Jerry and Ruth Warren of Poplar Bluff.

Her parents, James E. and Leora Kidd Stewart, sisters, Dorothea Cole and husband D.J. Cole, Lillian Ingram and husband Vernon, Hilda Rawlins and husband James, Ruth Manwarring and husband Durwood, Georgia Lesser and husband Al and Bonnie Ketcherside and husband Herschell, niece, Dawn Manwarring and nephew, Gary Manwarring also preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Richard Triplett officiating.
