June Whittle Cox

June Cox, 78, of Jefferson City, Mo., formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Ashland Healthcare Center, in Ashland, MO.

Mrs. Cox was born March 1, 1937 in Canalou, Mo., to the late Hubert and Ruby Lee Stockton Whittle. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, in Poplar Bluff and a long standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and devoted mother for many years and an assistant to her late husband, Tom Cox in his CPA and Public Administrator offices. After moving to Jefferson City, she worked as an executive staff assistant in the State Capital for House Representatives Patrick Naeger, Catherine Hanaway and Dr. R. Wayne Cooper. Mrs. Cox dearly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, shopping and was an avid animal lover.

On Sept. 22, 1956, she married Thomas J. Cox, in Canalou, Mo. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2002.

Survivors include four children: Leslie Ann Marston (Ed), of Lynn, Mass., Tom Cox Jr., of Benton, Mo., Donna Gail Steinmetz (Larry), of Jefferson City, Mo., and Lori Leigh Norton (Ed), of Poplar Bluff; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth Staats (Peter), Nathaniel Marston, Hannah Cox, Gabriel Cox (Kristen), Jessica Steinmetz, Scott Steinmetz, Trae Norton and Tyler Norton; two great-grandchildren: Hayden Cox and Emma Grace Cox; and a brother, Danny Whittle (Pat), of Smyrna, Tenn.

A brother, Hubert Van Whittle also preceded Mrs. Cox in death.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. David Stewart officiating. Burial will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
