Kenneth Mack Spencer

November 5, 1956 — June 25, 2025

Poplar Bluff

Kenny Mack Spencer unexpectedly passed away from a long-time illness on June 25, 2025.

Kenny was born on November 11, 1956, to Orville and Edith Spencer. He married Karen Cook on July 29, 1978.

Kenny was owner and operator of Spencer’s Furniture before becoming shift commander for the Bulter County Fire Department. Kenny loved the fight of the fire. Those who knew him knew when he played, he played hard and when he fought, he fought hard. He loved his fire fighter family though known to raise a little- well a lot- of hell. He made the job interesting and gave them his all. When you were his friend, you were his friend for life. Known to give his opinion and advise whether you wanted it or not, his words were his own. Underneath that rugged exterior was a big man with a heart of gold. Many times, after a fire fight, he would tell me, “Kaye we saved all the animals too.” When the big man would have an illness to overcome, he would say, “well it's not gonna take the big man down this time.” Today the struggles of health gained control, and we said “good-bye”. No more suffering for Kenny- the big man.

Kenny leaves us all with a ton of memories, stories, and a few long-winded tales and there’s always a red day.

Kenny is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Kaye; sister, Carolyn; family, Cheryl, Ronnie, Robbie, Jonathan, Jerry, Laura, Chris, Rita, Teresa, Ross, Lora, Mike, Larry, Carolyn, his many, many friends, his fire fighter family, and dog Sadie.

No service will be scheduled at his request. There will be a scattering of the ashes at the pond at a later date.

So, as Kenny would say- “If you’re gonna be a bear, be a grizzly.” RIP
