She was born April 15, 1962, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1980 where she played trombone in the Show Me Marching Band. Her fellow band members referred to her as Big Bird because of the yellow warm-up suit she always wore to practice.
Kim was formerly a teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL) at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, and was also Adjunct Professor at Arkansas State from 1996 - 2005.
She is survived by her soul-mate, Judith Carlson; her mother, Marilyn Johnson; two children, Matthew Johnson (Danielle) and Hannah Johnson Adams (William); three grandchildren, Lilyanna, Paddy, & Haven Johnson; sister, LaDonna Johnson Rone (Anthony), all of Poplar Bluff; and half-brother, David Grossman (Maria), of Madeira Beach, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Johnson; and her grandparents, Hugh & Martha Beights and Charles & Erna Johnson.
Kim enjoyed reading, music, composing stories, genealogy, documentaries, making jewelry, painting, sports, and was an avid fan of Notre Dame football.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 27, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 28, at 11:00 am in the funeral chapel, with Rev. Annette Joseph officiating. Kim will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery, accompanied by bagpipes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/donate.
Cotrell Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Kimberly Ann Johnson.
