Kurt G. Luecke, 58, prominent businessman of Poplar Bluff, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 at his residence.
Kurt was born Oct. 9, 1955 in St. Louis, MO. After graduating from St. John Vianney High School in St. Louis, Mo. he attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Kurt attended Memorial Baptist Church and seceded his father as owner and President of Luecke Distributing Inc., wholesalers of Budweiser. Kurt was actively involved in many organizations and community events including the distinguished Anheuser Busch ""Dimensions of Excellence"" program. He was a past member of the Poplar Bluff Jaycee, Lions and Rotary Clubs. His involvement in the community also included sponsorship of many local events including the Annual Drag Boat Nationals, the Ozark Invitational Golf Tournament, American Cancer Society Gala, the Cardinal Caravan as well as several other charity events. Being very inventive and an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed mechanical engineering and water sports including, boating, scuba diving, and skiing as well as playing with his dogs. He also enjoyed going to flea markets looking for past-time memorabilia and bargains.
On Dec. 12, 1981, he married the mother of his children, Fawn Ochsenschlager in St. Louis Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include four children: Christopher (Jessica) Luecke, Matthew (Nikki) Luecke, all of Poplar Bluff, Kyle Luecke, of Tampa, Fla., and Katelyn (Jared) Kester, also of Poplar Bluff; three grandchildren: Blake, Ace and Aubrey Kester; his mother, Shirley Huch Luecke, of Houston, Tex.; five sisters: Jan (Robert) Leible, of Poplar Bluff, Joan (Carl) Boyer, of Houston, Tex., Teresa Luecke Smith, of St. Louis, Mo., Carolyn (Kelly) Lackey, of Emporia, Kans. and Mary (Tommy) Armes, of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Eric (Carol) Luecke, of Houston, Tex. and Karl (Lisa) Luecke, of Long Beach, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
His father, Francis ""Frank"" Luecke preceded Kurt in death.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Baptist Church, 2215 S. Broadway in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the church chapel with Pastor Dennis Ward officiating. Burial will follow at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
