Larry Wayne Childress, Sr. passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the University of St. Louis Hospital at the age of 75 years.
Larry Sr. was born Aug. 26, 1941 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. to the late Elbert and Etta (Warren) Childress.
Larry retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 1997. He enjoyed camping, fishing and coaching Little League Baseball. Before and during his battle with a liver transplant and cancer, he was an active member of Green Forest Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon. He loved people and he had a huge fan club of many friends.
He married Barbara Pinkerton of Poplar Bluff on Dec. 1967. They had two sons: Larry, Jr. (Kelly) and Scott Childress of Poplar Bluff, Mo. two grandsons: Michael Scott and Hunter Wayne Childress of Poplar Bluff; several step-grandchildren; Cody Wilson, Tommy Wilson, Logan Shults, Carl Hofer, Danielle Schanuel and Ashley Hofer; one brother, Jack Childress of Poplar Bluff, Mo., his mother in law, Louise Pinkerton and a host of extended family and friends. His parents, Elbert and Etta Childress and father in law, Charles Pinkerton Sr. preceded him in death.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. with Mr. Ray Sowell officiating. Burial will follow at the Montgomery Cemetery in Butler County.
