Larry James Woods

Larry James Woods, 73, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Woods was born June 4, 1941 in Ft. Wayne, Ind. to the late Marvin and Mary Margaret Teders Woods. He was of the Catholic faith and had served as a police officer for the Rockford, Ill. police department. Relocating to Poplar Bluff in 1976, he served as a deputy for the Butler County Sheriff's Department, served as an investigator for the Butler County Public Defender's Office and was the former mayor of Neelyville, Mo. for six years. Mr. Woods enjoyed spending time with his family and serving and protecting the communities in which he lived.

On March 12, 1972, he married the former Betty McDonnell in Rockton, Ill. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three children: Jeffrie Lee Woods (Sharon Lea), of Harpers Ferry, WV, Charles Burman (friend, Shari), of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lynne Green (Ronald), of Dixon, Mo.; two grandchildren: Kristina Radley and Jaclyn Green; a sister, Gloria Kiffer, of Weldon Springs, Mo.; and two brothers: Ronald Woods, of Doniphan, Mo. and Michael Woods, of Sikeston, Mo.

A son, Larry Michael Woods preceded Mr. Woods in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with Father David Coon officiating. Interment will be at Corning Cemetery in Corning, Ark.
