Laverne R. (Davis) Whitehead

Laverne R. Whitehead, 84, of Maryland Heights, Mo., passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Whitehead, the daughter of the late Riley and Lillie Harper Davis, was born Feb. 6, 1932 in Qulin, Mo. She was a member of Lone Prairie Baptist Church in Qulin and was a homemaker. Mrs. Whitehead, a Christian since early childhood was recently baptized on August 30, 2016. She enjoyed traveling and gardening but the times spent with her family are what she cherished most.

On Sept. 3, 1951, she married the love of her life, Harold Whitehead in Piggott, Ark. They most recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, of which they both were very thankful and proud of.

Survivors include a son, Kerry Whitehead; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister-in laws, brother-in-laws and several nieces and nephews, with whom she was very close.

A son, Keith Whitehead also preceded her in death. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. Brother Jim Chandler will officiate. Burial will take place at Qulin Cemetery in Qulin, Mo.
