Lela May Arena

Lela May Arena, 76, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026, surrounded by loved ones in her home.

Lela was born on October 29, 1949, to Odis and Martha (Vanmeter) Clubb in McGee, Missouri. She married John Arena on August 14, 1992, in Wappapello, Missouri.

Lela graduated from Puxico High School in 1967. Her kind and compassionate personality led her into a career in nursing which began in 1978. Lela spent decades caring for others before retiring. In her earlier years, she enjoyed listening to music and dancing any chance she had. Lela also loved cooking holiday meals, playing the piano (which she taught herself), and playing solitaire on the computer. Her warmth and love for others did not end at work but also carried over into her home life. Lela loved her family dearly and they were her greatest joy in life.

Lela is survived by her best friend and husband of 34 years, John Arena; two children, Kathy (Brent) Matthews and Steve (Amanda) Sides; two grandchildren, Ryan (Dona) Causbie and Kerigan Jones; two great-grandchildren, Reighan Causbie and Taylor Thomason; along with numerous extended family members and friends.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents, Odis and Martha Clubb; four brothers, Don, Tom, Lonnie, and Larry Clubb; along with two sisters, Velma McClendon and Veda Elledge.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 11:00am-12:00pm at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Memorial service to follow beginning at Noon with Pastor Rick White officiating.
