Leonard Earl Allison, 86, of Poplar Bluff died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Audrain Medical Center, in Mexico, Mo.
Mr. Allison was born Nov. 9, 1922 in Chaonia, Mo., and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He retired in 1967 after 4 years with the U. S. Army and 20 years with the U. S. Air Force. For his service during WWII Mr. Allison received an Army of Occupation Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award; Air Force Commendation Medal; and National Defense Service Medal. He was a past member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Allison enjoyed spending time with his family and electronics.
On Nov. 3, 1956 he married Rosemarie Ernst in Wiesbaden, Germany. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 1995.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Diana Palmer and her husband Bruce, of Jefferson City; two granddaughters: Jessica Elizabeth Palmer, of Columbia and Haley Marie Palmer, of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Charlotte Godat and husband Lee, of DeSoto; step-mother, Maudie (Fox) Allison, of Puxico; half sisters: Grace Allison, of Bloomfield, Opal Allen, of Bloomfield, and Glenda Caulfield, of Puxico; and half-brothers, Billy Allison, Charles Allison, of Puxico and Bobby Joe Allison, of Decatur, Ill.
His mother, Roxie Allison; father, Miles Allison; four brothers: George Allison, Austin Allison, John Allison and Joseph Allison; and two half-brothers, Arthur Allison, Franklin Allison preceded Mr. Allison in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father David Coon officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Butler County.
