Leonard L. Gowen

Leonard Leon Gowen, 65, of Bonne Terre, Mo., formerly from the Coon Island community south of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at the Community Manor in Farmington, Mo.

Mr. Gowen was born Nov. 16, 1944 at Coon Island, Mo. and was raised there on the family farm. In 1979, he moved to Lake Timberline near Bonne Terre, Mo., and then to Troy, Mo. In 2006, he moved to Farmington, Mo. where he resided until his passing. During his early years Mr. Gowen enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed listening to country music, smoking his pipe and reminiscing the past, especially of the years growing up at Coon Island.

Survivors include his sister, Lillie (Gowen) Raybern and husband, Charles of Farmington, Mo.; two brothers, John Gowen and wife, Sheila of Bonne Terre, Mo. and David Gowen and wife, Christene of Troy, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews and their children.

Preceding him in death was his mother and father, James B. Gowen and Verna G. (Stout) Gowen, and a brother, James Bertrand Gowen that died in infancy.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will be at Dunning Cemetery in Butler County.
