Linda Sue Hackworth, 79, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at The Manor in Poplar Bluff.
Linda, the daughter of the late Benjamin E. and Hattie A. Robinson Thornburgh, was born Aug. 12, 1940 in Greenville. She attended First Church of God in Poplar Bluff as well as the Cowboy Church at Fisk. Linda was a devoted Christian who loved to sing in a trio with her sister Karen and friend Sharri. She was also known to pack her car with children and take them to church. During her earlier years Linda began her secretarial career for a bank, and later as a secretary for the Highway Patrol and Poplar Bluff Regional Center. She eventually retired after many years as a secretary at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and staying on the go.
She married Marvin Lee Hackworth on July 4, 1964, in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2013.
Survivors include three children, Darin (Alberta) Hackworth and Deidre Hughes of Poplar Bluff and Eric (Lisa) Hackworth of Piedmont; grandchildren, James, Leigh, Deandra, Derek, Danielle, Justin and Alivia; great-grandchildren, Eden, Axel, Audrey, Connor and John III; a brother Bob (Virginia) Thornburgh of Poplar Bluff; and a sister Hattie Berniece Wright of Fisk.
Two brothers, Brian Thornburgh and Crandall Thornburgh and a sister Karen Johnson also preceded her in death.
A private graveside service will be held Friday, April 3, 2020 at Meador Flatwoods Cemetery, in Wayne County. Pastor Kevin Murray will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Linda’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis TN 38101.
