Linda Kay Smith, 58, of Poplar Bluff passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 19, 1954 in Butler County. She was a 1972 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, and a graduate of Three Rivers College. Mrs. Smith was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, and had retired as a special needs teacher's aid for Poplar Bluff R-1 Schools. For 20 years, Mrs. Smith also worked part-time at K-Mart. She loved sports and played softball for many years. She also enjoyed teaching children, working crossword puzzles, and doing word searches, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
On Oct. 7, 1981, she married Robert L. Smith in Poplar Bluff. He survives.
Other survivors include two children, Terrance Anderson and Shaneka Smith, both of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Kyra Rainwater and KaMara Smith; eight brothers, Robert Anderson, and Lewis Anderson, both of Indianapolis, Ind., Charles Anderson, William Anderson, and Sylvester Anderson, all of Poplar Bluff, Jerry Anderson of Athens, Ga., Michael Anderson, of Memphis, Tenn., and Donnell Anderson, also of Poplar Bluff; four sisters, Joyce Rose, of Memphis, Tenn., Marbeline Rowlings, of Poplar Bluff, Vermal Blackman, of Ft. Campbell, Ky., and Peggy Carter, of Indianapolis, Ind.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her parents, Phillip J. and Sally M. Lewis Anderson, and a sister, Dorothy Hawes preceded Mrs. Smith in death.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Tabernacle in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon with the Rev. Andrew Jefferson officiating. Burial will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
