Lloyd Daniel ""Speedy"" Bacon, 76, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis.
Speedy was born Oct. 28, 1934 in Sikeston, Mo. As a child he attended the Seventh Day Adventist church and in later years he attended the Third Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. Speedy was a retired custodial worker. He enjoyed riding his bicycle all around Poplar Bluff collecting discarded items and tinkering with them trying to restore and make them work again.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Kassel of Denver, Colo. and Ruth Bacon of Raymondville, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents, James C. and Berdetta Chaney Bacon, sisters, Alice Coffee, Ann Miller, Betty Spivey, Pearl Cochran and Susie Allen and brothers, Robert Bacon, Allen Bacon and Marshall Bacon all preceded him in death.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon Sunday in the funeral chapel with Pastor Joe Arellano officiating. A private burial will be Monday at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions to be used for the purchase of a headstone.
