Lola Evalyn (Bruce) Crain

Lola Evalyn Bruce Crain, 84, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 in Poplar Bluff.

Lola was born Sept. 11, 1931 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. to David Otto and Luvina Christina Pierce Bruce. She had three older sisters: Violet Edna Bruce Powell, Beulah "Boots" Bruce Slabaugh, and Flora Lee Bruce Martin. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and her granddaughter, Christa Lynette Milligan.

As a young teenager, Lola was employed as a "Popcorn Girl" at the Rodgers Theater. Lola was a 1949 graduate of Poplar Bluff Senior High School. She finished a business and bookkeeping program at the Poplar Bluff Business College located on Broadway Street. Lola worked as an accountant for Cleveland Insurance Company and Barnes Grocery Company. She retired as Comptroller of Barnes Grocery Company when the company closed. Lola was a member of the Altrusa International and Woman's Citizenship Club. She held multiple leadership roles in both organizations over the years. Lola served as the first president of the Kay Porter Edgewood Suites Board. She was currently serving as Treasurer of the Women's Citizenship Club. She was an avid reader of mystery books; other favorite activities included listening to gospel music, and playing bridge as many times a week as possible.

Lola Crain was the beloved wife of Harry C. Crain whom she married on Nov. 25, 1950 in Piggott, Ark. They were blessed with three children: Larry Crain of Cedar Rapid, Iowa, Terrilyn Crain Wilson of Poplar Bluff and Karen Crain Milligan Schafer of Caledonia, Mo.; four grandchildren: Juliet Wilson Roberts of Poplar Bluff, George John Wilson of Sedalia, Mo., Jennifer Wilson Sexton of Poplar Bluff and Tara Milligan Nolley of Fenton, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel. Interment will follow at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
