Lora M. Burkeen

Lora M. Burkeen, 84, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Burkeen was born Nov. 11, 1925 in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of Bluff City United Pentecostal Church, and had retired from Lucy Lee Hospital as a nurse. Mrs. Burkeen enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, being active in her church and reading.

On April 26, 1941 she married the Rev. Woodrow Burkeen in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1992.

Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Kay Leonard and husband Lawrence and Jean Morgan and husband Jim all of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren: Charles Leonard, Rodney Leonard and Christie Young all of Poplar Bluff and Michael Morgan of Doniphan; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her parents, John and Myrtle (Helton) Stage, sisters, Elsie Estes, Dorothy Friday, Mabel Doan and Ruth Andrews and brother, Orville Stage also preceded Mrs. Burkeen in death.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Bluff City United Pentecostal Church, 501 South C St. in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ted Elledge officiating. Burial will be at Old Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler County.
