Lorene Martin, 84, of Poplar Bluff passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 at her residence.
Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 19, 1929 in Taylor, Ark. She was of the Baptist faith, and during her younger years she was an active PTA officer supporting her children's teachers by helping plan many events for the children and their families at Baskey No. 2 School. Mrs. Martin worked at Florsheim Shoe Factory for many years and later retired from Newberry's Department Store. She loved to spend time with her family, gardening, and blue grass music.
On June 15, 1946, she married Stanley Earl Martin IN Bradley, Ark. He preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1998.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Martin of the home; son, Stanley Edward Martin (Rita) of Poplar Bluff; sisters, Cassie Culpper (Von) of Shreveport, La., and Barbara Dixon and Virginia Fergueson (Ron) all of Grand Prairie, Tex., and Betty Sue Johnson (Harold Loyd) of Magnolia, Ark.; and brother, James Caldwell (Carol) of Kannapolis, NC.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents, Jodie and Emma Fish Caldwell, sisters, Imogene Caldwell, Juanita Towery, Jo Shaw and Inez Dickey, and brothers, Raymond Caldwell, Odis Caldwell and Jodie Caldwell.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Catherine Bryant officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
