Loyd Thomas Hughey, 99, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Cedargate Care Center in Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Hughey was born Feb. 1, 1910 in Hiram, and was a graduate of Patterson High School. He was of the Protestant faith, and had retired from Ward-Fulton Big Star Grocery Store as bookkeeper. Mr. Hughey enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, flower gardening and operating his ham radio.
On Oct. 2, 1937 he was married to Ruby Hamilton. She preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 1987.
Survivors include his son, Gerald Hughey and wife Sandra, of Poplar Bluff; grandsons: Joseph Hughey and wife Amy of Wildwood and Jeffery Hughey and wife Theresa of Poplar Bluff; great-grandsons: Conor Hughey, Spencer Hughey and Ethan Hughey; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hughey, of Fenton; and special friends, Melvin Mayo and F. M. ""Blue"" Kester, of Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Hughey's parents, C. M. and Eliza J. (Costephens) Hughey and brothers, James Hughey and Clarence Hughey preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel with the Rev. Gary Wolverton officiating. Burial will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
