Mable Rodgers

Mable Rodgers, 94, of St. Louis Mo, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Christian Hospital Northeast, in St. Louis. She had moved from Poplar Bluff seven years ago to be near her family.

She was born July 3, 1919 in Lepanto, AR, to the late Tommie and Anna Mae (Jones) Hendricks.

On December 16, 1936, she married Theoplis Rodgers in New Madrid County. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1996.

Mrs. Rodgers was a member of Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church where she worked as a mother in her church and was a homemaker. Prior to relocating in St. Louis, Missouri she was an active member of Morning Star M.B. Church in Broseley, Missouri. She faithfully served as church mother, trustee, Sunday school member, choir, women's missionary society, and pastoral care aide president. She enjoyed singing, gardening, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and friends.

She is survived by her son, Theoplis Rodgers Jr. (Evelyn); and daughter, Philos Rodgers-Banks (Wilbur); a brother, Albert Robinson; and a sister Gloria Reese; 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, all of St. Louis.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Rodgers, while proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War, and two brothers, Porter Hendricks and Gilbert Robinson, and a sister, Mildred Hall.

Visitation will be Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, until time of service at 11 a.m. Rev. Andrew Jefferson will be officiating. Interment will follow at Morocco Cemetery located off highway AA.
