Marglie Viola Libla of Poplar Bluff, Mo passed away at 9:58 AM Monday, July 15, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
She was born on June 19, 1925 at Marquand, MO to Ernest and Dessie (Cloninger) Thomas.
On August 19, 1942 she married the love of her life Clyde in Hiram, MO. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in August 2007. Her world came crashing in around her when her soul mate passed away on February 17, 2008 and her eldest son Larry on November 30, 2011. God blessed this union with four children: Larry (Pam) Libla of Fisk, MO, David (Mary) Libla of Fairdealing, Mo, Doug (Elaine) Libla of Poplar Bluff Mo and Joyce (David) Robinson of Herod IL; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Marglie was raised with six sisters. Lela, Jessie and Myrt passing before and surviving sisters are Florence (Corky) Hartsell, Lola Hellen, and Mable Whitener.
As a rural mail carrier of almost 40 years for the Lowndes and Hiram community it was always said that a customer could set their clock as to when their mail would be placed in their box. Marglie and Clyde believed in the motto, "" Come rain, sleet or snow, the mail must go.""
To say that Marglie was an exceptional person would be an understatement. She never ceased to amaze her family and friends of the spunkiness she showed every day in her senior years. Most recently she purchased a new bowling ball and was active in the fall and summer leagues at Bluff Lanes. As a member of the PBWBA, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame several years ago and her family room is proof that she was a true competitor with all the trophies and awards proudly displayed. Being a sports enthusiast, she enjoyed playing organized softball until 66 years of age.
On the last Tuesday of each month she would attend the meeting of the Greenville Home Improvement Club where she was a member for over 50 plus years. She enjoyed singing in the Northside Nutrition Center Choir of Poplar Bluff and Broseley Community Gospel Choir alongside her husband. She was a past president of the Wayne County Singing Convention and loved singing alto. As a member of the Methodist Church of Greenville she was active in the Extension Women's Club and especially enjoyed the annual family night. In recent years she attended the First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff, MO
Upon retirement, she and Clyde made many friends while playing bingo. Watching the Cardinals on TV or attending their games was just one of her hobbies. Seeing her children or grandchildren participate in sports, plays or pageants made her very proud. Being a blessed woman she seldom complained of aches or pains. Our loss is heaven's gain and she is now rejoicing with her loved ones gone before.
Visitation will begin at 3:30 PM Friday at the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff with the funeral service following at 6 PM. Dr. William Vail will officiate. Interment will be at the Libla Family Farm Cemetery adjacent to Cypress Creek Cemetery in Fairdealing, Mo.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Greenville Methodist Church, c/o Freida Williamson, P.O. Box 73, Greenville, MO 63944.
