Maria Galdina Montoya Esquivel, 73, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Mexico, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Mrs. Esquivel, the daughter of the late Gregorio and Cayetana Avila Montoya, was born Feb. 19, 1943 in Doctor Arroyo, Nuevo Léon, Mexico. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Esquivel enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, baking cookies and crocheting baby hats, sweaters and blankets for her family and friends.
Her husband, Leonides Esquivel preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1999.
Survivors include nine children: Pablo Esquivel, Olegario Esquivel, Ovidio Esquivel, Martin Esquivel, Hector Esquivel, Gregorio Esquivel, Miguel Esquivel, Francisco Esquivel and Leonides Esquivel; 34 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maria de los Santos Montoya.
Two children, Evangelina and Gerardo Esquivel also preceded her in death.
The visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father William Hodgson and Father Daniel Robles officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
