Marian Marie Shields

Marian Marie Shields, 79, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Shields was born July 22, 1935 in Hancock, MI, to the late Ernest and Matilda Raymond Verville.
On September 4, 1973, she married Frank Shields in Flint, Michigan. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1987.

She was a devoted Catholic and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the sewing room at the church, helped in the food pantry and visited the church weekly saying her rosaries and praying for others. She enjoyed spending time with her family, making baby blankets, crocheting and embroidering, and was always a Hank Williams fan.

Survivors include her four children: Debra Hopkins (Rex), of Poplar Bluff, Brenda Frost, of Burton, MI, Alan Boitel (Rebecca), of Montrose, MI, and Katherine Henson, of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren: Colby Hopkins, Shannon Neil, Jeri Ann Hunter, Marie Hunault, Jason Boitel, Alayna Boitel, Dewayne Henson, Jr., Johnathan Henson and Angelic Henson; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Shields was also preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children: Elmer Boitel, who passed on January 16, 2013; two sisters: Theresa Tryon and Delores Gormley; and two brothers: Francis and Bernard Verville; a granddaughter, Mary Stuer; and two son-in-laws; Dewayne Henson, Sr., and Barry Frost.

Visitation will be Tuesday, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel from 5 - 8p.m., with a rosary starting at 5:30 p.m.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel, with Father Coon officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
