Marie Burgin Carpenter

Marie Carpenter, 92, of Poplar Bluff, Mo, passed away Sunday, March 24,2013 at her home.

Mrs. Carpenter, one of 13 children, was born on January 31, 1921, in Butler County, Mo. to Charlie and Myrtle Wicker Burgin.

In August of 1937, she and Jonithan E. Carpenter were married in Butler County. He preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1986.

Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Old Oak Hill Community Church, and enjoyed being a homemaker, spending time with her family and working the polling booths at elections.

Survivors include her children; Almeda Moore (Gene), Martin Carpenter (Ruth Ann) and Jim Carpenter (Tara), all of Poplar Bluff; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Yarbro, of Doniphan, Mo.

Her parents, a daughter, Glenda Carpenter, and a sister, Ruby Carpenter, also preceded her in death.

Visitation will begin Tuesday at noon at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. Melburn Deaton officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
