Marjorie Mae Belknap

July 18, 1921 — October 30, 2014

Marjorie Mae Belknap, 93, of Poplar Bluff passed away on Thursday October 30, 2014.

Marge was born on July 18, 1921 to the late Marie Van Dyne Boeving and the late
Hugo Boeving. After graduating from Poplar Bluff High School in 1938, she earned a degree from Fontbonne College in St Louis, Missouri graduating in 1943. She was married to James Elbert Belknap on March 16, 1944 at Sacred Heart Parish in Poplar Bluff.

Marge was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish where she was a past president of the Alta r Society and a loyal volunteer at the annual bazaar. During her lifetime, she participated in the Junior Study Club, was an avid bridge player, and served in various capacities with the school PTA. Marge was also active in the Westwood Hills Country Club Ladies Golf Association as well as the Ladies Bowling League. Marge had a long affiliation with 1st Community Bank of Poplar Bluff and served with her late husband Jim on the board of directors of Bootheel Bank Corporation for over 26 years. She was a member of the American Bankers Association and Missouri
Bankers Association and cherished the many friends made through her involvement with those organizations.

However, when asked about her various community activities, Marge would insist her greatest roles were those of wife and mother.

Marge is survived by her two children: Brian R. Belknap and wife Maria; and Joan Belknap Bullington and husband Stan, all of Poplar Bluff. Six grandchildren: Lilli Belknap Hurst (Rick), Monica Belknap West (Steve), J ulie Childress Otto (Steve), James M. Childress (Maria), Brian Richard Belknap (Michelle), and Todd S. Bullington; and eleven great grandchildren: Olivia and Sabrina Hurst; Hannah, Sophia, and Alexa West; Jacob, John and Bennett Otto; Sonnie Childress; and Tripp, Braden, and Brett Belknap.

In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband James E. Belknap and two siblings, Irene Boeving Clarkson and Leo Boeving.

Visitation will be at the Poplar Bluff Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday November 1st from 12:30p.m. ? 1:30p.m., with a funeral mass immediately following. Father David Coon will officiate. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Cotrell Funeral Home will provide their services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Sacred Heart Catholic School, both of Poplar Bluff, MO.
