Martha Elizabeth Beights

Martha Elizabeth Beights, 99, of Poplar Bluff, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday night, Nov. 25, 2015, at her residence. She passed peacefully while surrounded by family.
She was born Oct. 20, 1916, in Pine Bluff, Ark., to the late Charles Ben and Mima (Wood) Dashner, and moved with her family to Poplar Bluff at age nine.
Martha married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Hugh F. Beights, Sept. 3, 1936. Both were lifelong members of Second Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death, Dec. 6, 1989.
Survivors include four children: Ronald Beights of St. Louis, Carolyn Beights Ponte of Belton, and Marilyn Beights Johnson and Saralie Beights Morgan, both of Poplar Bluff; a brother, John Morgan Dashner of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Martha was predeceased by two brothers: C. B. Dashner and James Dashner, and infant son, Michael Allen Beights.
She and her husband were charter members of NARVRE (National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees). Martha's hobbies included reading, sewing, fishing, and cooking. Her love of cooking led to her employment as a cook at Oak Grove School, a position she held for 16 years. Her church family especially enjoyed her famous chicken pot pie and peach cobbler. Above all, she was a faithful prayer warrior.
Visitation and funeral service will be at Second Baptist Church: Visitation from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, with her pastor, John Collins and her former pastor, Luther Abbott officiating.
