Mary Fern Allen

Mary Fern Allen, 79, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, March 28, 2011 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Allen was born Oct. 5, 1931 in Butler County, Mo. She was a member of First Church of God, and had worked in the Butler County Collector's office and General Baptist Headquarters before retiring. Mrs. Allen enjoyed hand stitch work, quilting, flower gardening, reading and ceramics.

On Feb. 14, 1976 she married Wilbur J. ""Bud"" Allen in Poplar Bluff. He survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Peggy Eaker and husband, Mike of Lewistown, Ill., and Pamela Shamblin and husband, Rick of Blue Springs, Mo.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Proffer of Poplar Bluff; and a brother, Carl Aud also of Poplar Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, William Elmer and Laura (Scoggins) Aud, and sisters, Francis Aud, Lillian Aud and Thelma Jones preceded Mrs. Allen in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Richard Triplett officiating and the Rev. Dennis Aud assisting. Burial will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
