Mary Agnes Fortenberry, 90, of rural Butler County passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Cedargate Healthcare.
Mrs. Fortenberry was born in Odessa, Mo on May 18, 1927. She retired from Montgomery Wards after 26 years of service. Mrs. Fortenberry enjoyed playing the piano at Fairview Baptist Church, where she was a member. Above all things she loved her family, God and her church. Her concerns were always on others and their well being before her own. Mrs. Fortenberry was an active volunteer at the Sunshine Home where her son, Gary resided until his passing.
Mrs. Fortenberry is survived by two sons, Robert Wayne (Izetta) and Michael David (Susan) Fortenberry of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Cook Fortenberry, a daughter, Mary Louise Hayes, and a son, Gary Lynn Fortenberry, a granddaughter Susan Goller, a grandson, Curtis Whitlock, her brothers, Lawrence Ralph and James Vorwark, a sister, Francis Graham and her parents, Julius and Mabel (Kueck) Vorwark preceded her in death.
The visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ralph Mayes officiating. Interment will be in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
