Mary L. Tibbs (Parsons) Lafond

October 17, 1930 — August 19, 2016

Mary L. Tibbs LaFond, 85, of Wappapello, Mo., passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. LaFond, daughter of the Victor Harrison and Bertie Kearbey Parsons, was born Oct. 17, 1930 in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of Lakeland Assembly of God and was a homemaker. During her earlier years, Mrs. LaFond worked at Gossard Garment Factory and later at Lucy Lee Hospital in Environmental Services. She was also an Avon representative for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her church, fishing, sewing and gardening

On Oct. 18, 1975, she married Stanley F. LaFond in Poplar Bluff. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include five children, Marion (Sharon) Tibbs of Poplar Bluff, Allen (Barbara) Tibbs of St. Louis, Mo., Darlene (Roger) Yancey of Evans, Ga., Ron (Paula) Tibbs of Poplar Bluff and Sheena (Kit) Carson of Austin, Ark.; a step-daughter, Mary Lynn LaFond Nichols; a brother, Karl (Judi) Parsons of Germany; five sisters, Barbara (Alvin) Foster of Corning, Ark., Naideen (John) Goodall of Poplar Bluff, Lana McElwrath of Tennessee, Linda Hampton of Wappapello, and Judy Parsons Langley of Doniphan; 14 grandchildren: Michelle (Doug) Bates, Brian (Lori) Tibbs, Kim (Scott) Evans, Stacey Newberry, Marsha (Matt) Lewis, Warren (Lauren) Yancey, Mark (Bethany) Tibbs, Jamie (Duane) Kellerman, Becky (Will) Jones, Brent (Terrye) Cooper, Chris (Katie) Glass, Misty Hill, Kit Carson, Jr. and Sheryne Wilkerson; 30 great-grandchildren: Kaylee (David) Hessling, Kelsey (Brant) Williams, Lucas, Tyson and Tanner Tibbs, Amber Tibbs, Tyler Evans, Mallory and Madison Newberry, West and Charlotte Yancey, Mia and Miles Lewis, Amber (Kyle) Murray, Alexis and Addysen Tibbs, Hunter, Kaden and Addie Kellerman, Chloe, Kristen and Alexis Jones, Hana, Jordan and Camryn Cooper, Luna Franks, Crystal (Tristan) Findlater and Brayden, Rowan, Maggie and Willow Glass; and four great-great-grandchildren: Kaydence and Jett Hessling, Teagan Murray and Gannon Evans.

In addition to her parents, a sister, Marie Greene, five brothers, Jimmie, Donald, Archie, Leonard and Jerry Wayne Parsons and several brother-in-laws preceded her in death

The visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. Pastor Arvin Haynes will officiate. Burial will take place at Sparkman Cemetery in Butler County.
