Mary Belle Divine Smith, 90, of Cartersville, GA, formerly of Poplar Bluff, MO passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 in Cartersville.

Mary was the daughter of Raymond and Veda Divine. After marriage, she and her former husband, Lloyd C Smith, and daughter, Sherry, moved to Royal Oak, MI where they lived for over 30 years.

During her time in Michigan, Mary was actively involved in church ministry at Madison Heights Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Adult leader, Girls in Action (GA’s) leader and so much more. Mary was a lifetime member of the order of Eastern Star – Royal Oak Chapter 392 and served as Worthy Matron during her time there. She was a creative crafter, always finding ways to refurbish old and discarded things. Mary was a planner and an organizer. She was a caregiver and encourager – always seeking ways to help others. In her early years, Mary worked in the area of nursing at the hospital in Poplar Bluff and later went on to receive her nursing degree while in Michigan.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, Raymond Divine and her mother, Veda Thurston Divine; her grandparents, Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Thurston; her brothers, William (Bill) Divine and Charles Ray Divine and a daughter, Linda Jean Smith.

Mary was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville, GA

Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Gary Glaze of Cartersville; three granddaughters, Amy Davidson and her husband Greg of Al Ain, UAE, Rhonda Tipper and her husband Jonathan of Old Fort, NC and Laura McCoy and her husband Spence of Cartersville; and seven great-grandchildren, Hayden and Riley Davidson, Reagan, Brady and Nathan Tipper and Ebby and Finley McCoy.

A graveside service and burial will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wed. Dec. 20, 2017 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with Rev. Jonathan Tipper officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Mission Fund (Tabernacle Baptist church 112 E. Church St. Cartersville, GA 30120)
