Mary Humphries Stuart, 96, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 in Poplar Bluff.
Mary, the daughter of the late James and Nellie (Carpenter) Johnson, was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of First Baptist Church and had retired as owner and operator of Humphries Market. Mary loved spending time with her family and pets Toby and Precious. She enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching, especially hummingbirds.
She married George Humphries on May 26, 1940. He preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1972. She later married Eugene A. Stuart on Jan. 15, 1981. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1989.
Survivors include four stepchildren, Jimmy Stuart of Crestview, Fla., John Stuart of Poplar Bluff, Janice Bellina of Rockledge, Fla. and Judy Zoll of Bernie; a sister Clara Hendrix of Poplar Bluff; a nephew, David Hendrix of Poplar Bluff; two great-nieces, Erin Hendrix of Pacific, Mo. and Sarah Ferguson of Millville, Ore.; and several step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren and a step-great-great-grandchild.
Mary also was preceded in death by an infant brother and a sister Betty Clay.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 2 p.m. Dr. William Vail will officiate. Entombment will take place at Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
