Matthew James Davis, 57, passed suddenly and unexpectedly from this life on Monday, April 13, 2026, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Matt was born in Emporium, Pennsylvania on May 13, 1968, and moved to Poplar Bluff, MO, in 1972 when his father, Reverend Bill E. Davis, became the minister at Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Matt served as an acolyte in the church for many years.
After graduating from Poplar Bluff High School in 1986, he moved to Granite City, Illinois, when his father became the minister at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. Matt began working at Shop and Save where he was employed for 13 years. While there, he served as a regional representative to the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
Matt left Illinois to return to Poplar Bluff when he married Jeannette Nutter on April 19, 2000. They had known each other as young children and teens and had reconnected later. He loved to tell friends and coworkers that he was a confirmed bachelor for life except if he ever got the chance to marry a girl he used to know as a young guy – Jeannette. When they reconnected and the opportunity arose, he took it! Together they had a beautiful life.
After returning to Poplar Bluff, he became a truck driver for Kohlfield Distributing. He progressed to sales and office manager. After 20 years, he changed jobs and began driving a concrete hauling truck for G & T Trucking. He had a strong work ethic, enjoyed his job, and built relationships with colleagues.
His pride and joy – and his favorite accomplishment – was his family. He cherished his wife and adored his children. He was a loving and proud father to Carson James, Parker William, and Wyndser Elizabeth. His family was Matt’s greatest gift.
Matt had a deep faith and personal relationship with God. His family knows he was celebrated in Heaven upon his arrival. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Donna Davis; older brother, Paul Davis; nephew, Christian Brandes; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hyde Nutter and father-in-law, James Robert Nutter (his hunting and fishing buddy).
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannette; two sons, Carson and Parker Davis; daughter, Wyndser; three sisters, Debbie (Steve) Hager, Becky (David) Manhart, and Rachael (Keith) Gaudreault; brother-in-law, James R. Nutter II; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Matt was dearly loved and will forever be missed.
Memorial donations can be made to Hearts for Rescue in lieu of flowers.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 2:00-3:00pm at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow beginning at 3:00pm with Reverend Bill Clanahan officiating.
