Maurine Harris, 93, of Columbia, Mo., formerly of Poplar Bluff died Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Lenoir Woods retirement community n Columbia.
Mrs. Harris was born Oct. 29, 1917 in Kewanee, Ill. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff where she was a member of the Sue Messenger Circle and Tri-Mu Sunday School Class. Mrs. Harris retired in 1983 after having served 20 years as secretary for First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Fine Arts Club; member of the Founding Board of Margaret Harwell Art Museum; member of the Community Betterment Council; and member of the Artist Guild. Mrs. Harris and her late husband also served many years as active volunteers for Senior Olympics.
On July 23, 1937, she married J.D. Harris in Princeton, Ky. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2002.
Survivors include four children, Bob Harris and wife Carolyn of Rolla, Mo., David Harris and wife Kay of Moberly, Mo., Dale Harris and wife Peggy of Basking Ridge, N.J. and Nelda Jean Harris of Cozumel, Mexico; six grandchildren; Michael Harris and wife Whitney, Mark Harris and wife Marge, Steven Harris, Tara Link and husband Troy, Ben Harris and Grant Harris; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Hobby and wife Barbara of Princeton, Ky.
Her parents, Owen and Bessie Belmont Nichols Hobby and three brothers preceded Mrs. Harris in death.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel with Rev. David Stewart officiating. Burial will be at City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
