Melvin "Teeny" Lloyd Payton, 96, of Fisk, MO passed away on September 16, 2025 at his home in Reeds Spring, Missouri.
Melvin was born on March 11, 1929, to Emery and Belva (Aud) Payton in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He married Winiona Garrett on August 12, 1950, also in Poplar Bluff.
Melvin was a member of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He worked for John Deere Tractor in Poplar Bluff for 46 years and retired in 1991. He was of the Baptist faith and previously attended Collins Chapel General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, and gardening.
Melvin is survived by his daughter, Gina Woollums-Strong (William "Greg") and one sister, Ruth Payton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Winiona Garrett Payton; second wife, Eathel Hicks Payton; three brothers, Robert, Vernon, and Clifford Payton; one sister, Theda Ferwerda.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 11:00-12:00pm at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff. Funeral service will follow beginning at Noon with family member Austin Adams officiating. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Winiona Payton.
