Micheal Douglas Cates

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Micheal Douglas Cates, 55, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, who departed from this life, surrounded by loved ones, on July 21, 2026. Born on October 21, 1970, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Micheal was a loving father, husband, son, brother, and friend who spent his life devoted to the people and things that he loved.

Micheal was a dedicated husband to Terry, his loving wife of 29 years, and a wonderful father to River and Jaden. He graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1989 and earned an associate degree in art at Three Rivers Community College. He worked for U.S. Forestry at Lake Wappapello for three years, at Walmart for 28 years, and at W.W. Wood Products for 6 years. He and his family attended and were members of Fellowship General Baptist Church. He was a hard-working man with an immense love of the outdoors, where he spent much of his time hunting and fishing. He also had a passion for art, frequently illustrating the beauty of local wildlife and landscapes.

He is joined in Heaven by his brother, Brian Cates, and is survived by his wife, Terry; sons, River and Jaden; mother, Joann Cates; siblings, Jerry (Paula) Cates, Angie (Ron) Eakin, and James Cates.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10 A.M., followed by a funeral service at 11 A.M. to honor his life and legacy at Fellowship General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
