Mildred L. Coats

Mildred L. Coats, 97, of Poplar Bluff died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at the Oakdale Residential Care Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Coats was born Aug. 29, 1912 in Vilonia, Ark. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she was active until her health began to decline, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Coats enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, singing and gardening.

On Oct. 25, 1944 she was married to the Rev. Earl Coats in Corning, Ark. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 2004.

Survivors include three children: Jimmy D. Coats, Sr. of Poplar Bluff, Dr. Phillip E. Coats and wife Lee Ann of Collinsville, Tex. and the Rev. Hartlen G. Coats and wife Diane of Tulsa, Okla.; 8 grandchildren: Robin Coats, Chuck Coats, Tammy Orchard, Jimmy Coats, Jr., Alicia Coats, Jon Coats, Josh Coats and Tom Coats; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Modell Scobey and husband N.O. of Poplar Bluff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Coats was also preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Bertha (Tucker) Tullos, sister, Olivia, brother, Earl Tullos and great-granddaughter, Katherine Ann Coats.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel with her son, the Rev. Hartlen Coats officiating. Interment will be in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.
