Mildred Helena Kelton, 94, of Poplar Bluff, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Mark Twain Caring Center. Mrs. Kelton was born August 20, 1913 in Brookport, Illinois and was a member of the Assembly of God church. She enjoyed art, especially painting. She and her husband were the owners of several companies, Kelton Coal , Kelton Lumber Co., Kelton Block & Brick Co., Kelton Furniture Co., F & M Vending machines, Real Estate and they had the first car wash and laundry mat in Poplar Bluff.
On July 29, 1930 she was married to Fred L. Kelton in Marion, Ill. and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1993.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Helena Gardner of Poplar Bluff, Louise Gardner of Lawton, Okla., and 1 son, Dr. Dale Lynn Kelton and wife Dorothy of Springfield, Ill.; 2 grandchildren, Brenda Gardner and James L. Gardner and wife Roni; 1 great grandchild, Jayme Gardner; 2 sisters, Mary Rudolph of Paducah, Ky, and Alice Commins of Metropolis, Ill.; and 2 sisters-in-law, Lois Clark and Ethel Gill both of Marion, Ill.
Mrs. Kelton was preceded in death by her parents, William and Althy (Wymer) Giltner, and 2 daughters, Virginia Delores Kelton and Barbara Kay Kelton.
Visitation will be at 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the Maplewood Cemetery in Marion, Ill. with the Rev. Bobby Moore officiating.
