Moses L. Cooper

Moses Lee Cooper, 78, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Cooper was born May 19, 1932 in Hughes, Ark. He was a member of Brown Chapel AME Church in Poplar Bluff and had retired from the U.S. Army after serving two tours in Vietnam, and tours in Indo-China and Korea. After retiring from the Army Mr. Cooper was employed at Mingo Job Corp where he retired as well. He was a member and past commander of VFW Post 6477, a member of American Legion Post 153 and the Amvets Lodge. Mr. Cooper was a faithful volunteer at the VA Hospital as well as the VFW, American Legion and Amvets. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and gardening.

On May 19, 1992 he married Carolyn Diggs in Poplar Bluff. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Kevin L. Cooper of Poplar Bluff; step-daughters, Joan Cheaney and husband Jeffery and Muriel Little and husband George all of St. Louis; two sisters, Corinne Griffin of St. Louis and Bettye Givens of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Alfred Cooper and wife Theressa of St. Louis, John Cooper and wife Barbara of Poplar Bluff and Curtis Cooper of Fairview Heights, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Mary Cooper of St. Louis.

His parents, Marshall and Gladys (Prowell) Cooper, sister, Sadie Bounds, brother, Nathaniel Cooper and nephew, Victor Bounds preceded him in death.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. James Boler officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
