Nancy D. Kurz

Nancy Diane Kurz, 52, and a resident of Poplar Bluff for 18 years before moving to Stringtown where she has resided for the past 34 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Mrs. Kurz was born Dec. 27, 1956 in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of Green Forest Church of Christ, and was a homemaker. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, Mrs. Kurz served as a volunteer for UCAN (United Cancer Assistance Network) in Poplar Bluff for several years. Mrs. Kurz enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandbabies, reading, traveling, scrap booking, cooking and cake decorating and doing embroidery.

On June 28, 1975 she married Dennis Leroy Kurz in Poplar Bluff. He survives.

Other survivors include her daughters: Rebecca Ann Shipman of Poplar Bluff and Rachel Beth Taylor and husband Jerome of King George, Va.; son, Dennis Aaron Kurz and wife Jolene of Poplar Bluff; mother, Betty (Gregory) Hanks of Poplar Bluff; sisters: Deborah Pickens of Pueblo, Col., Terry McLean and husband Joe of Anaheim, Calif., Glenda Hanks of Phoenix, Ariz. and Debbie Ryman of Ky.; brother, Patrick Pickens and wife Dottie of Fisk; and grandchildren: Serenity Raymond, Collin Kurz, Libbi Kurz, Joshua Shipman and Christian Shipman.

Her father, Williams Hanks; brothers, Lindahl Pickens and Rick Hanks; paternal grandparents, Fred and Delpha Hanks and maternal grandparents, Harlan and Grace Gregory preceded Mrs. Kurz in death.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel with Mr. Ray Sowell officiating. Burial will be at Kerns Chapel Cemetery in Stringtown.
