Nettie Francis Sheridan

Nettie Francis Sheridan, 88, of Poplar Bluff, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Sheridan was born April 9, 1922 in Butler County, Mo. From early childhood she attended Green Forest Church of Christ where her parents were in charge of communion. Upon their deaths, Mrs. Sheridan continued this tradition along with her husband Alfred. She attended Black Creek School where she completed the 8th grade. In the late 1950's she was an active member of the Black Creek P.T.A. Mrs. Sheridan worked at the Cedar Shoe Factory until it closed, and then sold Stanley Home Products. When the shoe factory reopened as the Florsheim Shoe Co. she went back to work and continued there until her retirement in 1984. Mrs. Sheridan enjoyed talking, walking, leaf raking, nut cracking and quilting.

On Aug. 20, 1945 she married Alfred Owen Sheridan in Texas. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1981.

Survivors include her son, Bill Sheridan and wife Joyce of Poplar Bluff; three grandchildren, Terry Sumrall and husband Jesse and Billy Joe Sheridan and wife Jennifer, all of Poplar Bluff and Monica Gail Reed and husband Billy of Russellville, Ark.; six grandchildren, Courtnee, Jasmin, Heather, Kelsey, Kaitlyn and Ashley; a sister, Shirley Davenport of Poplar Bluff; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Her parents, Dave and Julia (Gardner) Hays, sisters, Hattie Slinkard, Judith Seesengood, and brother, Paul Hays also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel with Mr. Jim Sneed officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
