Norma (May) Seesengood Carnes, 85, a resident of Springfield, Mo. since 1993, and formerly of Poplar Bluff died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 at Christian Health Care East in Springfield.
Mrs. Carnes was born Dec. 13, 1926 in McGee, Mo. She was of the Baptist faith, and was a homemaker. After her second marriage, Mrs. Carnes moved to Happy Camp, Calif. where she resided until 1993. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, collecting dolls, flower gardening and hand piecing quilt tops and finishing the quilts by hand quilting.
On Feb. 10, 1948, she married John H. Seesengood in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1958. On July 13, 1969, she married Charley W. Carnes in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1992.
Survivors include three children: Brenda K. Boyd and husband Cliff of Nixa, Mo., Earl L. Seesengood and wife Darlene of Floresville, Tex. and Bruce R. Seesengood and wife Phyllis of Joplin, Mo.; a stepson, Bill Carnes and wife Nancy of Days Creek, Oreg.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Wilson and husband Bob of Eden, Wisc.; and 2 brothers, John H. May and wife Marlo of Sacramento, Calif. and Dwane May of Lantana, Fla.
Her parents, Oscar and Bessie (Underwood) May and stepdaughter, Gayle Mentgen also preceded Mrs. Carnes in death.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in the Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
