Norma Lee Tipton

Norma Lee Tipton, 88, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, Aug. 14, 2017 at Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff.

Norma, the daughter of the late Russell L. and Inez Gaines Proffer, was born Feb. 25, 1929 in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of New Home General Baptist Church and had retired after 18 years in sales at Poplar Bluff Christian Book Store. Norma enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting, crocheting, bowling and crafts.

On Sept. 14, 1946, she married Lynn Tipton. They were married 34 years and raised three children. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2011.

Survivors include two children, Russell L. (Sue) Tipton of Wappapello and Lee Ann (Johnny) Brannum of Poplar Bluff; a daughter-in-law, Kim Tipton of Harviell; five grandchildren, Jeff (Kelly) Tipton of Bullhead, Ariz., Brian (Denise) Tipton of Algonquin, Ill., Carrie (Ricky) Carr of Poplar Bluff, Michelle (Julio) Antonio and Todd Tipton of Poplar Bluff; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Jerry (Jeanie) Proffer of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Margaret Cross of Poplar Bluff and Carol Sue (Paul) Sells of Covington, Louisiana; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A son, Rickie A. Tipton, a grandson, Jesse Matthews and a brother-in-law, Ted Cross also preceded Norma in death.

Visitation will begin at 10 am. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at noon. The Rev. Calvin Buhler will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
