Oscar Vernon Eubanks

July 2, 1933 — January 16, 2013

Oscar Vernon Eubanks, 79, of Jackson, formally of Poplar Bluff, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Mr. Eubanks was born on July 2, 1933 in Gideon, MO, to Oscar John Ervin ""O.E."" and Daisy Lee Young Eubanks. He was a member of the Abundant Life Christian Center in Poplar Bluff. Before becoming disabled, he worked in the construction field as a self-employed contractor. As a young man he was a boxer, and continued to follow the sport on TV. Mr. Eubanks was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed reading the Bible, watching baseball and doing word search.

On May 21,1955 he married Violet Marie Haynes in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1992. On September 8, 2005 he married Martha Louise Ballard at Piggott, AR. She survives.

Other survivors include 6 children, Carolyn Hillis (Ron), Kathy Smith all of Poplar Bluff, Debbie Ellison (Jim) of Fisk, Desma Reno (Danny) of Jackson, Trish King (Kenny) of Poplar Bluff, and Welta Garrison of Jackson, MO; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Kenneth Wayne Eubanks (Donna) of Dexter, MO, and Donald E. Eubanks (Janice) of Fisk; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, a grandson, 3 brothers, and 6 sisters also preceded Mr. Eubanks in death.

Visitation will begin at 12:30p.m. Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 1:30p.m. in the chapel with
Rev. David Thomas officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Donations should be made to the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau in lieu of flowers.
