Paul Ramsey husband of Donice Cooper Ramsey
Paul Eugene Ramsey was born August 25, 1932, in Wildwood Village, Pulaski County, Missouri. Preceded in death by his Parents Cora Elizabeth Perkins Ramsey and Charles Ramsey. Preceded by his brother Napoleon Ramsey and sister Lillian Murphy.
Married Donice Marie Cooper January 31, 1954.
Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey had 2 sons, Paul Eugene Ramsey Jr. and wife Sonja, and Rodger Allen Ramsey and wife Dana, along with 4 grandsons, 5 granddaughters and 12 great grandchildren.
At age 5 Paul attended the first grade in Rolling Heath School in Missouri on the grounds of what is now Fort Lennard Wood Missouri. The school is currently maintained as a historic site today.
Paul gave his life to Jesus at 12. He told us many times as an early teenager he asked God to give him wisdom, a good Christian wife, and a long life for both. He was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Midland Texas in 1961 and has served God as a deacon in Baptist churches since that time. Paul always led his family to serve the Lord.
Paul had a creative mind as a young child, and he would invent toys, and the tools needed for repair work. He has a legal U.S. Patent for a pet actuated drinking fountain.
Mr. Ramsey received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering with a geology option from the University of Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy, Rolla Missouri in 1954. He began working in the Duncan Oklahoma area for Standolind Oil & Gas Company as an Associate Petroleum Engineer.
In 1955 during the Korean War, he began service in the Army. Attended Basic training at Camp Chaffee Arkansas and served at Fort Bliss Texas while training in K=Niki guided missile design and operation. He remained at Fort Bliss after training as a Maintenance and Operation Instructor for Niki surface to air missiles and associated electronic equipment.
Paul earned a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin. His thesis was Recovery of Viscous Oil by Steam Injection.
After graduation from the University of Texas, Mr. Ramsey was employed by Texaco in Odessa, Texas as an Associate Petroleum Engineer. Later, he moved to Kermit then Crane Texas as an Area Engineer. He transferred to Midland Texas as a Reservoir Engineer in 1962.
Paul completed his army career with an Honorable Discharge in 1962.
Paul, with wife and 2 sons, moved to El Dorado Arkansas where he began working for Murphy Oil as as Senior Petroleum Engineer. He later served in various managerial positions, including Production Department Manager.
Paul was transferred to the Murphy Oil New Orleans, Louisiana office as General Manager of Production which included all onshore US land and Canadian based production.
Later he was promoted to various other positions including Manager of Joint Operations Domestic USA and Vice President of Murphy Peru Oil Company. He was responsible for overseeing all drilling and production operations in South America.
His work allowed him to travel extensively across the United States, Canada, London England, Ecuador and Peru.
Shortly before his retirement he purchased a house in Mandeville Louisiana where he actively service in the First Baptist Church in Covington. After 31 years with Murphy Oil, Paul retired on November 6, 1996, and continued with consulting work.
In 2001 Paul and Donice Ramsey built a house in Tomball Texas where he served his Lord as an active member and Deacon in the First Baptist Church.
After retirement, he and his wife continued to vacation with family and visit grandchildren on a regular basis. Including, yearly vacations to Montauk State Park in Missouri where the family has continued to meet every year for over 55 years.
Graveside service will be Friday, May 30, 2025, 1pm at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, MO.
