Peggy Joan Hovis, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 after a 19-month battle with cancer. She went peacefully to meet her Lord at her home.
Peggy was born on July 19, 1946 in Cornwall, Mo. to Clyde Oland Guinn and Opal Forsythe Guinn. She was the 6th of 7 children.
She married Hollis Hovis on Dec. 22, 1962 in Fredericktown, Mo. They had one daughter, Cynthia Lynn.
Her parents, Clyde Oland Guinn and Opal Forsythe Guinn, two brothers: Donald O. Guinn and Ronald Levi Guinn, and one sister, Delores Imogene Guinn Mann preceded her in death.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Hollis Hovis; daughter, Cynthia Lynn Gaebler and her husband, Tim Gaebler; and three grandchildren that she loved more that life itself, David Gaebler of Columbia and Colter Gaebler and Alexandra Gaebler both of Poplar Bluff. She also has one surviving brother, James William Guinn and wife Sharon of Fredericktown; two sisters, Betty Marlene Barker and husband, William Barker of Piedmont, Mo. and Donna Kay Harper and her husband, Donnie Harper of Fredericktown, Mo; and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Before Peggy was diagnosed with cancer, she was a housewife who loved her job. She cooked and baked all the time; loved taking care of her family and home; and enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and collecting and reading cookbooks. One of her favorite things was playing in her pool.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Chapel with Bro. William Barker officiating. Burial will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Peggy wanted all memorials to go to the American Cancer Society or UCAN. She wanted her life and the valiant way she died to make a change in cancer research and for cancer patients.
