She loved being called Mamaw by many kids at church as well as friends of her children and grandchildren. Peggy worked alongside Vernon in each pastorate, Greentop MO, Puxico MO, Poplar Bluff at Grace and Good Hope United Methodist Churches. Peggy was the epitome of the perfect pastor’s wife going above and beyond to take care of the members of each church. She used her beautiful voice and leadership skills in the music ministry in various churches. One of her great joys was singing with one of her sisters and 3 other friends in a group called ‘The Grace Messengers’. They blessed many churches with their ministry, and it lives on as they have left an album of their most requested songs. Her latter years she assisted in every way possible at Grace Christian Fellowship where she was a charter member. She was especially known for her love of entertaining. She could have a meal ready in just a moments notice. Her specialty was Coconut Cream pie. She would have a crust ready at all times and if someone dropped by the house within 30 minutes a fresh pie was being served. Those pies were known to go for over $100 at church auctions. Peggy taught her children how to care for family as she and Vernon opened their home to her mother the last 11 years of her life and also cared daily for Vernon’s mother who lived alone until she passed. It was well known that Peggy was an excellent seamstress. Many years ago, she worked at Stovall’s department store doing alterations and making wedding dresses. She made many dresses for her daughters and nieces and even made several of the bridesmaid dresses for her daughters’ weddings. Each of her children and grandchildren have a handmade quilt made of squares cross-stitched by Peggy. She wanted to make sure each had a piece of her ‘hand work’. She also loved gardening and canning. Our family will miss her home canned green beans and lime pickles. Peggy worked tirelessly in her yard well into her early nineties. She loved tending her flowers and making her yard look beautiful.
Preceded in death by her husband Vernon Kneir, her parents Wyman and May Ramsey, her infant son Wayne Mitchell, sisters Evelyn (Malcom), Nora (Clarence), Marilee (Phil), Audrey (Joe), Lena (Carl) Pauline, brothers Clyde (Virginia), Wyman, Glenn (Bernice) and granddaughter Stephanie Malone.
